Many people take life one step at a time, but when it comes to looking at the bigger picture and thinking about your future, it can be daunting.
Trying to figure out what you want to do with your life, such as what career you want to do, your relationships or where you want to be in a few years can seem impossible.
A lot of people don’t know what they want to do with their lives until later on, so if you feel like your life is lacking direction and you still don’t know what you want, don’t stress as you are not alone.
You work for the majority of your life, which is why it is important to enjoy what you do, so don’t rush into any job. Instead, think about where you see yourself in a few years’ time and what you enjoy doing. Then you can do some research into what jobs fit your interests.
If you feel like you are struggling to plan your future or that you could benefit from some extra support, then we are here to help. Throughout this article, we will be exploring how to plan your future and more, so read for more information.
Identify your Vision
A vision is something that you envision yourself doing later in life. For example, Nike has the vision to ‘bring inspiration and Innovation to every athlete in the world’.
A vision is similar to a goal, as they are both used to describe something you wish to achieve at some point in your life. If you feel like you are going through life with no direction or vision, it can seem pretty pointless. Believe it or not, feeling like you are walking through life in the dark is more common than you think.
However, there are many ways to redirect you onto the right path to help you find yourself and your purpose. One of the many ways you can identify your vision is by exploring your passions and talents.
If, for example, you enjoy baking and designing, then you can do some research and look for jobs that offer these hobbies so you can incorporate what you enjoy into your career. For example, baking cakes, designing products (graphic design), or opening your own bakery.
Once you have identified your vision, you will have something to work towards, eventually leading you back onto the path and allowing you to achieve it. Another way you can identify your vision is by envisioning what you want your personal life to look like.
You can do this by thinking about an end goal, where do you see yourself in so many years from now? For example, do you picture yourself owning your own business, or do you see yourself working in a school teaching children how to read and write?
It’s all down to personal preference. If you see yourself living in a different country, then this is also something you can aim for.
You can do this by learning a different language and finding a job you enjoy. Once you have done this and saved up enough money, you can eventually emigrate to the country of your choice.
By having a SMART goal or your mind set on something you want to achieve, you automatically regain direction in life, as you will feel like you have something to look forward to. Just remember, no matter what you have your mind set on, you can achieve anything. Next, you can spend time with people you admire.
More often than not, talking to those close to you about how they got to where they are today, can give you a slight idea of what to expect and how to identify your vision.
Once You Have Identified Your Vision, Start Planning
Once you have your vision in place and know what you want to do with your life, you can start planning your development.
If you have an idea of what you want to do but are unsure about how you can get there, then we can help you. Now that you have your goal, you will have to start thinking about how you will achieve it. You can do this by finding someone who does what you do.
For example, if you know someone who owns their own business and your goal is to own your own business one day, ask for support and talk to them about how they got to where they are today and what you can do to get there too.
Another way you can find your dream job role is by searching for it on LinkedIn. Look for those who work in that industry and look at their profiles to see what their work experience is.
This will give you a slight idea of how you can get the dream job you want. If what you want to do is expensive, make sure that you don’t give up, as there are many options available for those who don’t yet have the funds to pursue their dream career.
A great way to afford your career plan is by saving up or starting your own fundraising campaign. Achieving your goals can be hard, but if you keep trying, you can reach your goals. These are just some of the many ways you can save money to eventually be able to afford your dream career.
